Warmth tolerant Lycastes, Masdevallias

Hi y'all.

New to this forum, and have been keeping orchids for about 20 years.
I just moved to south Florida, an want to try and concentrate some breeding efforts in the realm of warmth tolerant Lycastes and Masdevallias.

Anyoe have any ideas where to start? LOL! I hve some ideas, with some warm grown species within the respective genuses, as well as some warm growing species of Masdevallia for potential use in the Lycaste project. Does anyone have any othe suggestions or hybrids to put forth?

Welcome! I know nothing about warmth tolerant Lycastes and Masdevallias. But I am sure there are people on the forum who will.

welcome to the Forum Brian! Good luck with the breeding and hope we get to see some of those lovely masdevallia/lycaste hybrids tolerating warmer temps... I only have one, masdevallia princeps and from what i have read of it, and the little experience with it, only have had it for about five months... it seems to be ok with higher temps.

I have the infracia it grows and blooms in warmer Temps . Not a fancy one , but is reliable and not picky . Welcome to the forum . Gin

I have a Masdevallia Weberbauerii that I got at a Miami show a few months ago & it's doing great here, probably by pure luck rather than my TLC I see that you breed orchids & my masd has a pod, any chance you can do something with it or know someone who does? I've read the flasking posts & think that I would fail utterly trying to do this on my own. Any advice or options are welcome.

Just had a look at a seed capsule data base .They have your species listed but do not have any time for green or dry seed.Sorry I can't be of any more help

Brian, an M. rolfiana is supposed to be warmth tolerant.
PM me and I can tell you where to find it online.

infracta and its hybrids tend to be very warmth-tolerant.

the large flowered ones such as ayabacana and princeps are actually warm-growing (relatively speaking) but still need high humidity. my princeps doesn't hate the heat as much as the barren conditions of the windowsill.
