Hi Betty1; When you said you had Encyclia's going in bloom you weren't kidding! Your photos give me a better perspective on these orchids than the 'catalog' pictures that orchid vendors display. I am more excited about seeing blooms on my own Encyclia's now that I see how wonderful they can be. Glad you posted these! AL

Wow Betty, those are gorgeous! I just got my first Enc. last weekend --a big Enc. Nursery Rhyme with 6 spikes. I love it and hope I do well with it. I haven't noticed a fragrance from it, but that may be because it is overpowered by the Miltdm. Rosy Sunset (an ornithorhynchilium offspring) next to it . . . and the hyacinths and blooming hoya across the room. I think I'll take it to another room and sniff.

Ooh that sounds lovely Fast grower you say? I've had mine for over a year and it hasn't really done much. I recently bought a small grow light so I hope that helps...

I cannot take ALL the credit, Yew...I didn't grow the boricana, or the bractescens. But encyclias seem to like the conditions that I provide for them, so I hope all that I got at the show will thrive...Thanks for all the nice compliments, everyone...Betty :-)

So funny to read this today-- my husband just told me yesterday how nice our kitchen was smelling with the encyclia cochleata in bloom. I'm not home during the daytime so I've never gotten to smell it and I didn't believe him!!!! Now I have to admit he was right and I was wrong...

Sadly I don't know. I posted pics of it when it came into bloom (so proud, and with much thanks to your advice!). I'm not sure how to link you to it but maybe if you search for my posts you can take a look and see what you think? If I sniff up close I can smell a vague sweet fragrance, but apparently it was striking in the afternoon, and our nanny noticed it too, not just the husband! :-)
