    Default Is this a cattleya

I got this plant from someone who was given a few orchids, she did not see the flowers that bloom nor does she know the name, she is does not know much about orchids at all, I was looking at the leaves and they look like cattleya, the roots are not too lively so I put it in some orchid mix with coconut fibre but I think I had better take it back out of this pot and put it into a hanging basket, I put it in the pot just about three days ago, Name: P_20140623_190345a.jpg

Cattleya alliance certainly. Could be a bifoliate Cattleya (bicolor, guttata and similar, proportions don't seen right for intermedia but maybe), but from this one picture I wouldn't rule out genus Guarianthe (aurantiaca, skinneri, bowringiana). Possibly some others. With the size difference between the pseudobulbs it probably isn't at mature size yet and immature plants can be harder to pin down. Species or hybrid impossible to say. Grow it well for a year or 2 and the flowers will make it clearer.
