This is a discussion on Yellow Chinsai "Little Joe" within the Cattleyas, Vandas, Dendrobiums IN BLOOM forums, part of the Orchid Photography category; Wow! That is amazing!...
That is amazing!
It sure is pretty
Beautiful display. It'll be a while before any of my pendant dens get to that size, but looking forward to it.
HOLY COW, molly I love it. Never divide it!
I don't know if that grex is especially floriferous, or if it is just that cultivar, but every one I've seen just blooms like crazy. I want!!!
Divide that up and send me the larger piece, much too much for you too handle as is ( and much too beautiful)
I'm not normally a Den person but I keep coming back to look at it. Can I ask how these need to be grown?
They are pretty easy. I have it on the south side of the house where it gets some sun. It gets watered 1-2 times a week and fertilized once a month except in the winter when it needs a dormant period. When the leaves drop in the fall it wants to be high and dry. I usually hang them in the tree so I don't water them. In the spring when the buds appear I bring them into the lathe house and start the normal routine.
Looks like you have the culture it likes down pat! Well Done!
Love the colour... it is such a happy colour!
Thank you, Cin, that sounds straightforward enough.
Do they need a cold winter rest? If so how cold? Can the tolerate hot temps in the summer? I'd love a yellow Den explosion like that
