    My Princess Mikasa arrived!
unforuntately it got freeze damage as it was stuck in the weekend and it happened to snow (never should anyone ship orchids late in the week!). I got out my Physan 20 and did a preventative spray, its my first time using the bottle and that stuff is strong!
anyway hopefully my Vanda does well. I put the giant root clump in a glass vase and will be growing it that way.

Too bad we probably lack the sun quantities up here in the north to welcome one of these princesses.

Oh, Fren, what a shame. They are tough old things though so hopefully it'll be fine. Just keep it nice and warm. Mine has most of it's roots in a large plastic pot although some have escaped and are growing outside of it too.

guess what it has a developing spike already when I peeked unbetween the leaves....

The plant just looks ugly with deads spots all over leaves b/c of the damage. A cattleya that came took the most damage, I might have to get that one replaced, though I am trying to forgive the vendor because the shipping cost was free!

    Hi Elena,
What magnificent blooms! I would do almost anything for blue flowers like that!
Can you please share with us how you manage to grow such beautiful vandas, ie watering and feeding routine, light and ventilation conditons.
Is it possible to post a picture of your large plastic pot?
I think I will be ordering a Princess Mikasa next week!
    Thank you!

I have always thought that I didn't have the conditions for vandas. Looking at your beautiful blooms has given me the yen! I think I might try one!

Hi, Miki! I keep it warm (at least 20C) and bright. Here in the North of England it grows on the South facing window during the warmer months and under lights during the winter. I try to mist it every day and give it a long soak and a feed once a week. If you can give it higher humidity then so much the better but mine seems to do fine on normal house conditions. That's it, really, I find it very easy as I said.
