Thanks Oz! Most of my catts are putting out new roots (moved to S/H) so no cutting for me this season, but a good method to keep in mind for the future.

    Wonderful purple OZ.
Too bad I don't have space for this guy. I've turned to minis very quickly after I realized the C. dowiana I purchased is just a baby at close to 50cm.

He he he... soooo true! I recently started with SLC's just for the sake of space. Which is quite odd as I have just ordered two orchids that are going to be huge when fully matured....goes to show...me and orchid catalogues don't mix!!! just can't help myself!

I know the feeling. I like them catts (SLC BLC etc included) so much and I just buy too many of them. I don't even have proper conditions here (yet). They grow like crazy but they just don't seem to want to bloom.

Very nice blooms, one of these has been on my list since I saw a huge specimen at the AOS. Haven't been able to aquire one yet though.

How deep are the cuts that you make in the rhizome?

These are glorious things GBRICE, but watch out for the space factor, as with most bifoliates, they are untidy growers!!!
The cuts I make on the rhizomes are all the way through, mind you I only make two at the most on a large plant. And again, only do so if the plant is quite massive and has a great root system. Do not attempt this on a stressed plant or one that is sulking because it can make things worse.
    Thank you for the comment.
    Cheers

Have you thought of trying Paphs. in your growing area? sounds like a good spot for most of the Maudiae types and the cool growing species.
They really are my favourites, and am about to spend a small fortune on some new species for my collection. I am sure I will get in to trouble again!!!!
