Default My Dendrobium is in bloom

My dends are finaly in bloom and now I can boast. The deep rich burgandy is so lush. The other one I barely managed to save after buying it. It had to be repotted to get it out of some kind of strand fiber that rotted the roots off. I lost two before I even realized what was going on. I thought it was a gonner but it started to bud after transplanting so I let'er go. I know I should remove the buds to help the plant after the stress but I can't bring myself to. Its my only green catte. and I haven't seen it bloom since I bought it. All I know is its not dead till the stalks turn brown. Will it ever get leaves? Or will I have to wait for new growth to achieve leaves.

    my pics.

When they are blooming, mine will get little lead bumps, but they seem to stay small until the flowering is over. When they are ready they will take off and grow at a normal rate. Flowers just seem to suck all the energy the plant has. Only really old, well established plants grow leaves roots and buds all at the same time. They need alot of healthy storage bulbs to pull that off. That is why I have begun to only split the biggest and overgrown specimen plants. The larger the plant, the more spectacular and colorful the flowers.
Sounds like you are doing well already!

Yes, a dendrobium. I updated the thread title with dendrobium and moved your photos into that thread also.

    Cheers,

Hey, no worries at all. The whole point of having this forum is to help people share and grow their orchids. No one here will ever call you or anyone else stupid for making a mistake. If we never made mistakes, how the heck would we ever learn anything? Have fun and enjoy the community here.

    Cheers,
    BD

I'm leaving on a contract for four to six weeks on the 26th. So far only two blossoms are open, not much change. By the time I get back it will probably be over. If not I'll post when I get back. Talk in July.
