    We use redwood bark, coconut chunks, charcoal, and perlite.

    I use 2/3 Chopped coconut fibre mixed with 1/3 sphagnum moss. Crushed charcoal goes (of course) into all my orchid media.

    Sphagnum moss is now generally avoided by many folk because it retains too much water: I still use it, in moderation, to stop baskets drying out too quickly since I grow under glass... it works for me. However in pots I put less moss, or even none, depending on the orchid. You will find what suits you best.
