Thanks, all. She has since opened another bloom and thankfully the rain today did not even phase her!

I couldn't resist posting again. I'm so excited about this one! Miss Joaquin has been one of my favorite blooms since Cin posted hers right after I joined the forum. The blooms are almost 3 inches across and top to bottom. 5 blooms now with one more bud to bloom on this spike. The entire plant is less than 3 feet tall and in full sun.

Beautiful blossom! I grow my V. Miss Joachim in the ground around my trees. In order to keep them upright I tie them around the trees with strips of old pantyhose. By the time the roots attach to the trees the pantyhose has rotted and comes off easily. Of course, I can't bring them in for judging, but I get to see them every time I step out the front door and there's very little upkeep!

Warms the heart to see Miss Joachim appreciated so far across the seas. To Amey, grow it in full sun and keep your stake short, around 3ft as it tends to flower when it has grown above its support.Miss Joachim isd incidentally the main flower used in the Hawaiian lei.I dont know how far this story is true but it seems that early Joachims that were brought into Hawaii were pampered and grown in sheds under shade and they grew and grew without flowering. Out of disgust the growers threw out of the shed and lo and behold the discarded bloomed under the full sun. I can't vouch for the truth of the story but its a story we in Malaysia and Singapore , home of Miss Joachim like to tell.
