Nice!!!...how come my leonis does not smell of vanilla??? I added this one to my collection for the foliage alone...the flowers are an added benefit.

I suspect that the taxonomist thought the flower looked like a lion, therefore the species was named leonis

Even though I grow intermediate, I have many warm growers in my collection. This Dendrobium being one of them. I will have to make sure I take a good whiff at it's next blooming. Being a Bulbo grower, I have learned not to breathe too deeply, LOL.

Having a little knowledge of Latin can go a long way when you are dealing with plants and animals. The latin word meaning lion is leonis. Leapard has a similar derivation: leopard, from leo (lion) and pardus (panther).
