Default Brassophranthe Hawaiian Treat 'Prairie Sunrise'

Most of us are probably more familiar with its old name of Blc. Hawaiian Treat. This was when its parents were Bl. Richard Mueller & Lc. Trick or Treat. The darned taxonomists, however, have really messed things up. They took the Laelia ancestor of Richard Mueller and changed it to Sophronitis (making it Brassophronitis Richard Mueller). They similarly took most of the ancestors of Trick or Treat & put them into Sophronitis. The one exception was Cattleya aurantiaca, which got moved into the new Genus Guarianthe. Hence, Trick Or Treat is now Sophranthe Trick Or Treat. The resulting name is horrendous, but I still like the flower!

You'll see the newest flower doing the "usual" Richard Mueller thing. The guy in my OS I bought it from bought a bunch of seedlings in a compot and this one, alone of the seedlings, came out red initially, then gradually became orange.

He used to have a hobby orchid business and called it "Prairie Orchids". I felt he ought to name the clone, but he never did, so I asked if he minded my naming it. Since it comes out red, then turns orange like a sunrise, I gave it the clonal name of Prairie Sunrise to reflect its color change and his former business.

    Cheers,

    Rob

Another lovely Richard Mueller cross! It would be nice to have both Sunrise and Sunset.

Thanks for all your kind comments. Bruce I'm flattered you liked the shots. I confess I am always a bit reluctant to post my photos because they're just not up to the standards of this forum.
Lizgeo, I really liked your Sunset, as I said on your plant's thread, and if it weren't for that darn international boundary, I would definitely suggest trading divisions of our plants! In any event, my plant is big enough to be divided and it certainly must get repotted when the blooms are done--the pot is in tatters.
Marissa, I hear you re. the name changes! A part of me likes to keep up to date with these advances, but a big part of me really regrets the loss of the familiar names.

    Cheers,

    Rob
