    Default Brassavola Grand Stars

First blooms on a relatively new plant (I'm not responsible for the spikes!). Lost a few tiny developing buds due to aphids before I noticed the little vampires... Still, it is a graceful, fragrant flower and very welcome right now.

    Hi Lily,

She's a beauty! Is she fragrant at night? That would be in keeping with her parentage.

Her correct title is B. Grand Stars. It's a cross between B. nodosa x B Little Stars. B Little Stars is nodosa x subulifolia, and has smaller flowers, so the back cross with nodosa is to up the flower size. I have both a nodosa and a Little Stars, and they're both great plants.

Hey, where in NH are you located? I'm up there a lot (I live in NE Mass).

    Hi McJulie,

Good catch on the name -- I typoed the added "e". Thanks for the info. She is delightfully fragrant at night.

I'm in Pittsfield, in central NH. About 14 south of Alton. And 16 miles east and north of Concord, and 50 minutes from Portsmouth. Where are you? (I'm from Portsmouth, NH originally). [my real name is Julie, too]

Quite an elegant flower. The nodosa influence is very strong

Lovely photograph. I have B. Little Stars. Aren't they wonderful? The fragrance of just a single bloom will fill the room at night.

Oh no! Another Julie, lol! A few years ago we had another Julie who hung around for a bit and that's when someone christened me, "McJulie" because of my bagpiping.

The other Julie doesn't seem to still be around, so by what name should we address you? Alplily sounds like a predilection for mountain flowers, but one never knows with forum names...

I live in Marblehead, MA. But my illustrator is Alton Bay, so I'm there a lot. My publisher for my second novel is in Exeter, so I'm there a lot. I do a lot of programs with bookstores in New Durham, Wolfeboro, and Center Harbor. I've done library programs in Dover and Concord. I've done book talks in schools and literary festivals in Manchester, Concord, Gilford, Portsmouth, etc. So I'm up by you a lot!

If you ever want to get together and we can figure out what to call each other, just let me know! By the way...you have no idea how close you came to starring in our little forum Christmas pageant...
