    Default Bl. Yellow Bird

WooHoo, I found my 'Yellow Bird' and it's a spectacular monster of a plant! I keep counting between 9 and 11 spikes! My lunch partner decided I would be the one person she bought a Christmas present this year. She's so sweet, she saw me staring in awe at this and bought it for me. So far there are 3 flowers open with another couple dozen to go.... As you can see, the living room is colorful right now....only 1 or 2 are my blooms, the rest were bought since the beginning of October.

How long have you had yours? Any words of wisdom for me?? So far the bl types are doing okay here. Sometimes though they have quirks.....

    Hey Connie,

I've had mine two years this coming February...repotted it when it arrived and it seems like some of these guys take a long time to forgive that disruption. I have it potted in my own custom bark mix with quite a lot of chc due to extreme lack of humidity here....clear plastic pot, and I water about once a week- little more in the summer but i make sure it dries out well between waterings. It sits in a south west window sill.

Yours will do great I'm sure!

Wow, Connie! That's going to be spectacular when in full bloom - what a great gift!

Bl Richard Mueller is a parent, as is B nodosa and a grandparent too, so I bet it smells wonderful! So watch for a color shift. It's a classic trait of Richard Mueller crosses. They open one color and shift to another over the first week. I had a Richard Mueller NOID cross and it opened a very greenish yellow and finally settled into a very saturated golden orange (there are probably still a couple of threads with the photos around here somewhere.)

Have you noticed a color shift? Please be sure to post photos of the plant in full bloom!

Here are a few more shots of the new 'chid; Bl. 'Yellow Bird'. It's not completely bloomed out, but I didn't think a few more flowers would make for a better picture. It was hard enough to get this many flowers in the picture. The farther away I got from them the harder it got to get a good picture. Maybe I'll get that new camera like I was thinking about before Christmas.....get better pics of the 'chids! The last picture just happened to turn out pretty faithful colorwise....they turn very yellow and get much larger as they age.
