I too would have been miffed...
I don't think I have ever seen a phal as you described !!
So what are we growing orchids for ,if not to grow them to be the biggest ,best they can be ??? Of course, we do have judges that think phals are for newbies and anyone can grow them. BTW, what phal got best in show ???
I was the proud owner of that trophy at our show in March ! It was a first bloom seedling(should've entered it in that catagory ,too)
30 leaves and it didn't get a CCM...the grower should have removed the 2 lower wrinkly leaves....
Oh well, if I ever get to ribbon judge a phal like that..you can be darn sure it will get "Best of Show" !
LOL! Gilda, I can't remember for the life of me which plant won Best. I would have been pretty peeved, myself--the thing really was gorgeous. If the grower had been going for a CCM I'm sure he would have cut those leaves off, as you said. The judges came up with "possible CCM" as an afterthought--obviously it deserved *something*! But in the end, they didn't give it that either because of those silly leaves.
