Rob, that is so beautiful!!! I am so jealous. I only recently found out that it is in the vanda alliance, which means it wants daily watering right? Since it doesn't have storage structures? Right now mine is buddy-potted with a mini dend, so maybe I should separate them since I don't want to rot out the mini dend by overwatering it. I know they smell amazing, I remember the smell when I bought it, LOL...which was in April of 2006!!!! Ahh, its been so long, but I'm really gonna work on getting this guy to bloom. I always thought it was a phal, which was stupid of me. I'm going to go separate them right now!!!

That is lovely! And they do smell wonderful. Mine has a slight yellowish tint to the petals, so I think I prefer yours. It is very nice!

Oh man that is great! It has been on my wish list since I first started growing orchids. I am worried thought that I will never get it to bloom.

You'll have to tell us how long the flowers last!

Zain, Ron, you are quite correct with your comments about it looking very Phal-like. The growth habit is nearly identical, even the spike formation is very similar. It's a bit more compact than most Phals, and I think the leaves are slightly thinner than Phal leaves, but very similar. Of course, although we don't always tend to think of them as such, Phals are also in the Vanda Alliance. In spite of the resemblance to a Phal, I don't think Sedireas & Phals are terribly closely related.

Becky, I have to say nothing gets daily watering under my care! LOL But you're right, it certainly does not have major water storage capability. I'd suggest you water it the way you'd water a Phal. If you have well-draining media, and you water Phals daily, then do the same for this. Mine never gets watered more than twice a week. BTW, I would agree with separating yours from the Dendrobium--even if they did like exactly the same growing conditions, they must be competing with each other.

Rita, if yours is growing, but not blooming, you might want to try raising the light levels. I grow mine under the same conditions as my Catts--my Phals dislike the stand where my Catts are because it's too bright. Especially if your leaves are dark green, it might be something worth trying, at any rate. Although it might be yours is just not yet blooming size.

Meg, it's been blooming for about 3 weeks. I think I'm starting to see one bloom starting to look a little past its prime. I'll try to remember to let everyone know when the plant finishes blooming.

Sadie, my plant's flowers are perhaps a trifle more chartreuse than the photos might suggest. I find it a bit of a challenge to get the exact shade in photos that they look to my eyes in real life.

Fren, it has quite a sweet fragrance, but I'm not able to come up with anything I can compare it to.

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments. This is a great forum!

    Cheers,
    Rob

I love the lemony fragrance of this species. I have 2 plants of this species that are currently in spike!

Definitely a worthwhile species ....nice job blooming it Rob!
