    Default Potinara Free Spirit 'Eric'

My second mini cat, Potinara Free Spirit 'Eric'.

Is Potinara still: hybrid genus Brassavola X Cattleya X Laelia X Sophronitis?

BeckyD, this is from that place that you think takes too long to drive to. (near Math function plus male child) The phal's are really thinned out but their Cat's are staring to burst.

I have it at the office at a south window. I bought it in bud in the morning and it blossomed for me within the day. It was really neat. Everytime I looked at it, it was more open.

This is a pretty bloom and a big one for such a small plant!
    Beautiful color.

    Hi Joe,
Very nice Catt. The color really varies, depending on the photo--I often find the same when I'm photographing flowers. Sometimes I feel I never get it quite right even after lots of manipulations of light & shutter. Of course, my photography skills are rather limited...LOL

Yes, Potinara is still Brassavola X Cattleya X Sophronitis X Laelia, but many plants formerly in this hybrid genus may not be any longer if one (or more) ancestor species get moved out of their genus. I can't tell you off the top of my head if Free Spirit is one of the ones which have been reclassified or not.

It looks as though the plant has previously bloomed on smallish growths, so you may be able to hope this sheath produces a bud for you. Let's all hope so, for you!

    Cheers,
    Rob

Rob, me too. I tried taking the picture in a couple locations; near the window no flash and away from the window under the flourescents with a flash. The color in window shots does not quite have the richness and the flash is harsh. Joe

I'll take one of these too... and I like that variation in the colour... it's like having so many plants in one

this is currently designated as a Thwaitesara which is a combination of Cattleya, Guarianthe (was the Laelias before) , Rhyncholaelia (Brassavola... most likely the species digbyana) and Sophronitis.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to change the tags though as there is move underfoot to sink many of the genus into a super-genus Cattleya.
