    Question Enc. osmantha ?

I honestly don't know if this plant is tagged right. The bloom definately looks like an encyclia but the growth reminds me of a oncidium. I looked up Enc. osmantha online and the pics don't look like my bloom. I really like this plant but maybe someone could tell me if this is mismarked?

The blooms was cut prior to shipping and secured in a water vial to save on shipping costs. The blooms are what made me want this plant.

This is a bloom picture from the grower:

This is the plant...it's huge and I am going to repot it today:

The plant appears to be growing in a very straight line...almost like steps or a ladder...constantly going upward and in one direction.

Looks like Encyclia oncidiodes, the "oncidium-like" encyclia.
    Boy, this is massive!

LOL...no wonder it looked like an oncidium to me. Thanks so much for the info Lambe! I am going to read up on this guy. He is very large...was difficult to repot but I hope what I have him in now isn't too big.

Update....I have repotted this beast of a plant. Had to remove a few old pseudobulbs. This plant was growing in a straight line and upwards like a staircase. Really strange. I pushed it as far to one side of the pot as possible but the roots were quite extensive. Hopefully the container isn't too large. I almost need an long thin pot for this guy but this was the best I could come up with.

I am going to call it Encyclia oncidiodes from now on because from what Lambert showed me this is much closer in looks and growth to that than the osmantha.

Looks great and I am sure she'll be happy there! Did you plant the old p-bulbs? You may get another one growing there? I read somewhere that if the roots are good there is a big chance of a new growth to come out!
