They are BEAUTIFUL, Tami. I would have a difficult time deciding on my favorite one. I love all Vandas, except one I have which just started to bloom. Maybe it will grow on me.

I sure understand, Jeff. Most of June we were around 100 here. I douse them with the hose in the mornings, then use the mister with fertilizer every other week or so. They are a little harder to raise indoors, but some of them are small and I think they can be managed but I've never tried. I keep them in the garage in a southfacing window in the coldest part of the winter.

Okay--just noticed that you said it has bloomed 19 times in 2.5 years. Holy cow! Steroids check please! My next thought was she has GOT to be in Florida! They clearly love you and the Floridian combo of sunshine and humidity! Good for you!

Your Garage gave me an idea about my back porch. My porch gets sun until noon and I have a ceiling fan running all day for our dogs. I bet that would be a great place for my vandas. Thanks

All the flowers are stunning, but the first one simply out competes all. I think I have an entry in my orchid wish list hehe. Nice growing and thanks for sharing the pictures and cultural conditions.

Hey, good idea, Jeff! Light seems to be the key for getting them to bloom for me. My neighbor has a very shady back yard and has couple of vandas hanging under a tent canopy that have never bloomed. There are also some varieties that like less light, like Darwinara Charm 'Blue Star'. It is a small vanda with fragrant blue flowers that blooms twice a year for me. It has neo in it's background so maybe that's why it likes less light? Anyway, good luck with your vandas; hope to see pics of your blooms soon!

    Tami

PS: yes, Sadie, isn't that incredible?? It's a happy bloomer I guess!

What season did your vanda bloom? I'm wondering when I should add more sun.

Jeff, the gold vanda blooms constantly; I don't know why but I'm not knocking it! Most of my other vandas bloom in the summer although several bloom twice a year in the warmer months. I keep the light as high as possible year round; about 7000 foot candles in the summer. Winter is much less but still as bright as I can get it - some direct southern sun.

I went back and recounted the number of blooming for the gold vanda - sorry I misrepresented - it's only bloomed 18 times since Dec 2006 and some of the number includes double spikes, and the last was a triple spike. PS it is in spike again!

    Tami
