    Default Bl. Yellow Bird

Here is a nice Brassavola cross that is easy to grow and flower. Bl. Yellow Bird is (Bl. Richard Mueller x B. nodosa).

I bought this as a 40+ growth unit and repotted it upon delivery. It fell in two when I repotted it so I potted it as two separate plants. (Maybe it was two plants all along in the same pot!)

The flowers were dark orange when they first opened then turned yellow within two weeks. This one has been open for 5 weeks so far!

That is so beautiful. I bid on one at the local orchid society auction, but didn't win it.

Maybe the other half of this plant will have your name on it come this spring!

Wow. If only acquiring new plants was always that easy!

    Nice one, Garland.

Yeah! Traci isn't the only cute one around here! Why isn't anybody offering me plants? I have good hair and everything!

On a completely unrelated topic: Louis, what kind of name is Aszod, anyway? Ashkenazi? Southern? Southern Ashkenazi?

(Garland, sorry for the complete highjacking. Yellow Bird is very nice and smells soooo gooood at night.)

LOL! Sue! Odd thread to ask in!

Both my parents were originally from Budapest, Hungary, and "Aszod" is actually the name of a town outside the city. My folks immigrated to the US after WWII but, they've passed away nearly thirty years ago now, so I never had much chance to explore my Jewish heritage with them. In an effort, I think, to "Americanize" our family, we always attended a Reform Synagogue where, unfortunately, Jewishness was paid more lip service than action, and there wasn't much push to dig deeper.

So, to answer, I don't really know, but have always been mildly curious. If you have any clues, I'd definitely like to hear them!

ROTFLMAO! Sue! Your are cracking me up, even if you aren't trying to be funny.

BTW, I do love your hair, especially when it was blue...brings me back to when I have an assortment of colors in my hair....

Do you want any cishweinfia? I'll send it out when the weather is higher than -20 below zero???

Funny thing about names. My maiden name is Verrone(changed from Verona). Which of course was *Americanized* when my grandfather left Verona (Romeo & Juliet) to become an American citizen.

And I sneer petulantly at your Cisch. Not that I wouldn't enjoy having a Cisch around . . . but I sneer on principle!

I find it odd that 'Verrone' was considered more American the 'Verona'. Less Italian, perhaps, but more American? I think those Ellis Island people were either (1) really poor spellers, (2) told to change as many names as possible in order to create a sense of 'new beginnings', or (3) having way too much fun.

Louis; I've never run across an Aszod before, so I'm no help on the name. It makes sense, though, that it should have been a town name. At least you've got a city to go with; have you ever been to visit Budapest? A friend of mine spent a semester there . . . it sounds like a wonderful city.
