    Default Philippine Vanda Mystery HELP

Hi folks,I posted pics of this plant a while ago and help was offered but no conclusion was found. I have just obtained better photos of the plant in flower and one of the actual flower close up.
Its known locally as V. merrillii, Dwarf form.
The plant grows to 30cm tall and about 125mm wide plus extensive keikei growth. The flowers measure 25mm x 25mm and it flower from out the top of the growths.

It is a really nice bloom. Maybe Nelson will see it. He probably has this one in his collection. It looks like something he would grow anyway. Might PM him and see if he recognizes it.

    Cheers,

Im envious, now i need to have it too. It does indeed look like a merilii but i was told that
there is no dwarf form. Maybe Jim Cootes could give more light.

In my opinion, I think your Vanda merrillii was one of the selected types for tissue culture.
The leaf growth is uniform and the leaves are shorter and healthier and maybe it became a mutant by the time it was in the cultured in various hormones and chemicals in the laboratory.

    Greetings all,

It is a dwarf form of Vanda merrillii. Quite common here in Australia, as it has been grown from seed.

Thankyou Jim, as you say, this plant has been around for a long time here and I don't think anyone has actually asked for clarification of the name or ID. Atleast none of the growers I know ever have. I have also been told that this plant was imported to Aust' as a collected plant along with a other collect plants of V. merrillii and other Philippine species.

Randy, Ron, yes the problem seems to be solved OR moreso clarification of current name. By the way it throws keikeis I could have a reasonable supply of it in no time. All I have to do is get it to flower which apparently is not easy. I'm wondering how it will breed, could be interesting.
