    Default Dendrobium Nobile (fragrant)

Hello and meet my dendrobium nobile.
I got this last year from a friend's law office. It was given to him by our client and knowing that he would definately kill it, I adopted it (well ok I put it under my coat on my way out) even though I knew nothing about dendrobiums.
I'm a phalaenopsis kind of person so I repotted in hydro pellets in a terracotta pot and put it in a corner with the other phals.

Winter went by. Watered it as the phals. Medium light. The others are throwing roots. It did nothing.

Spring came. I took it out on the balcony with the other phals and watered it as all the others which have put on new leaves. It did nothing.

Summer came. The phals are full of blooms and spikes everywhere. It did nothing.

By now I'm more than upset, but kinda indifferent too because it was for free (these go for 50-70 euro only in florist shops). Now I know there's a reason I only buy phals. I toss it out of the dripping system and water it whenever I remember. Bye bye now.

By September it starts to grow new canes. Well wouldn't you know it.

November comes (=greek autumn) and in go the pots. I put them all in a bright place, water it as the others. It does nothing, but it has 3 canes. Oh well, I think, at least it's green like that bamboo thing they sell at "furniture in a big box" store.

December. It's that once a week when I check the phals. Now this one has done something. It's full of green pimples, even on last years' canes. Interesting.

The pregrancy wasn't as long as the phals and it went into full bloom in the holidays. Guests thought it was plastic. Yes, I know, I'm such a skilled gardener!

So here it is. Took some pics today. Enjoy. Culture tips: ignore it! It'll love you for it!

Gosh, that is beautiful. I love all the blooms! What a great, showy orchid.

    Cheers,

Very cute flowers! I thought these always needed a cool winter rest so I opted to let someone else experiment with the one I had received. Guess I'll have to get another one down the road and give it a try!

Ha! Love the story of this one... beautiful, too. Congratulations. Now you'll be more willing to try more non-phals?
