I'm just wondering what the purpose of the "black hairs" are for? Correct me if I am wrong but I get the impression that most dends that have black hairs are also cool growers?

Yes you are right, most of dends have "black hair" lives in cool areas and very difficult to "cultivate"

Jojo, while it's true that most of them like cooler conditions, D cruentum is an exception - it's free-flowering and quite floriferous and has the most gorgeous orange throat. Some hybrids with cruentum are free flowering and warm tolerant. D Dawn Maree, Frosty Dawn and Lime Frost are three hybrids with cruentum, all of which are white with that gorgeous orange throat. Dcruentum may be difficult to obtain but the hybrids mentioned are easily available.

    Thank you Yew.

My D Dawn Maree has grown so huge but it hasn't flowered again since I first bought it. Well at least I'm happy that it is growing well.

Loved your pics. Orchids are so unique in shape and colors. They remind me of people.
