Default Vandaceous - Renanopsis Lena Rowold in bloom

This is an old time favourite of mine. The red barred/spotted flowers are spectacular when in bloom and the flowers are long-lasting. The early Lena Rowolds were really tall plants reaching 6 ft before they would flower and the flowers tended to fade very fast, the older flowers fading before the flowers had all opened.

However the more recent crosses using a superior clone of Ren storei have overcome the fading problem and imparts 'dwarfism' enabling the plants to flower even at a height of 1ft.The plant shown here is the short , non-fade variety. The problem with Rnps Lena Rowold is its unpredictability - sometimes it blooms 2-3 times a year and sometimes not at all in a year. But growing in full sun helps. This particular plant has bloomed twice already this year.

I can't take credit for blooming this plant as it is blooming in my brother's garden from a plant I gave to him.

Here are some photos of Renanopsis Lena Rowold ( Ren storei x Vandopsis lissochiloides )
