Hello. Greetings to all that may read my post. A special thanks to the person who started this thread for posting such a beautiful shot of your orchid bloom. I have a Den. Hancockii and a Den. Hainanense, myself. I bought them a few years ago in 4" plastic pots with a mixture of moss (the kind used, traditionally, to plant Neofinetia fulcatas in.) and small orchid bark. When I bought the plants, they were already outgrowing their pots, so I figured I'd transplant them. I was told to try small bark, medium bark, sphagnum moss, mixes of Sphagnum and perlite, etc. for my growing medium, but my Hancockii just never seems happy (I just recently lost one of my two Hancockii, and I'm worried that I'll lose the other unless I do something reasonably quick). According to all I've read, it's getting proper lighting and watering. The plant I have left has 6 canes on it that all have a few leaves each. There doesn't seem to be any real good growth and that's what worries me. It seems super slow to put out any growth at all. Does anyone have any suggestions, tricks, or secrets they could let go of to teach me a thing about these lovely orchids? My Hainanense seems to be doing well (flowering the last 2 consecutive years), but I think it could use some growth help as well. Thanks in advance.

I have D. hancockii and mine is 4" pot with med bark/charcoal/perlite...and little moss. It like to get slightly dry between watering and need cooler drier rest during winter, just like the nobile type. And My plant is about close to 2 feet with branching canes, but yet to flower.

WOW! Yours in a 4" pot? Mine is in a 6" pot and it's only about 10" tall. lol Overkill? lol I'll have to give the mix you're using a try. I hadn't been told to try that yet. It almost sounds like a Phaleanopsis mix. I most sincerely thank you very much for your kindness, time, and help! =)
