Angel, I suspect your 'Aranda' may be a Mokara (Arachnis x Ascocentrum x Vanda). Arandas don't have the Ascocentrum in the cross. Whatever it is, it is v. pretty.

Try #2 - the first one vanished.
Angel. I suspect your Aranda may be a Mokara which is an Aranda with Ascocentrum added to the Arachnis x Vanda mix. Whatever it is, it is v. pretty.

That is a fantastic setup, Angel, and as you mentioned much better than wood that tends to rot away in the tropics. Will certainly try it out. Thanks for the tip.

I agree with Scrubber, that your aranda is most probably a mokara. Arandas tend to be more elongated vertically and mokaras more rounded in form(like yours). Also mokara flowers are normally smaller thanks to the ascocentrum ancestor. Of course can't tell the size of your blooms from the photos.

Thank you Scrubber. That's a valuable lesson for me on a Mokara's ancestry. I've never been very good with Mokaras, having killed a number of them before. Have been avoiding them since. But they have beautiful flowers.

Thank you Yew Sung. I'm learning a lot from you guys. I haven't had any Mokara in my garden for many years now, and whatever I had before were white spotted with violet or pink. You're right. This one has flowers a little fuller and more rounded than a typical Aranda.

JACKPOT! Thanks a million Ron for giving my orchid a proper name.
No, this isn't from Davao. I usually buy my orchids from nearby North Cotabato where they are usually cheaper. This Mokara was in full bloom when I got it, about 18 inches tall already, for 120 pesos (around US $2.60). That was in March of 2009.

@Angel: It could be a Mkra Bota Gold as suggested by Ron except for the absence of spots (could this be due to the photograph or my less than perfect vision? ). I have Bota Gold which looks exactly like Ron's with spots and all.Yours could very well be Bota Gold, just another variety.
