Such a pretty bloom! The last time mine flowered was 3 years ago and since then all the buds blasted before they opened. Another catt that behaves in the same way is Lc Hsin Yin 'Skies'. Incidentally both of them are the 'sheathless' type of cattelyas. Maybe the condition is due to the high temperature here or fertiliser burn or even thrips (the likely culprit). Am going to isolate the 2 plants and treat them differently from the rest of the catts and see what happens.

Thanks for posting. At least I can enjoy the pix.

I think Otaara Hwa Yuan Bay 'She Shu' fits well with the hot and humid climate in southern Vietnam, I do not know it grows well in areas with cold weather or not . average temperature is 37 degrees where I am in , while the temperature where you are is how much catttan? Your tree has three years without flowering? your existing trees growing like?

    Default otaara hwa yuan bay

The climate here is almost exactly like yours in South Vietnam. I'm sorry I did not make myself clear. What I meant was that buds are formed on almost every new mature pseudobulb but just dry up and shrivel when they are about 3 or 4mm, so I have no chance to see the blooms. What is so frustrating is that it only happens to these 2 catts while the rest of the catts don't have this problem.

From your post at least I can eliminate the heat and humidity as one of the causes of the problem. Thanks for your answer. By the way the first 2 times it bloomed it had a cluster of 5 flowers.Sorry no pix of the Hwa Yuan Bay but I do have a poor pic of Lc Hsin Ying 'Skies', the other plant with the same problem.

Wonderful bloom! If you look well, it resembles a Mask with eyes, nose and mouth looking at you! Quite special, thanks for sharing.
