Wow! Nice bright grow area. Perfect for Vandas. My grow area has become a bit darker lately because of how large some of my Vanda plants have grown. I've started moving plants around - some of the larger ones into areas which have more light and thining out some areas so that more light can pass through.

The rains have somewhat started though but there is still no official bulletin from our local weather station that the rainy season has indeed arrived. The rains that we recently experienced might just be a passing cloud. Well, better some rain than nothing at all.

Randy, I've got the same plant [V. Mimi Palmer x (merillii x insignis)] and I would say that hybrid has a very high degree of variability in its offspring. My plant is darker and tends toward the dark violet to almost black. I saw a couple of these plants side by side and I noticed that the flowers on each plant (though they were of the same cross) were all different from each other in terms of color. Naturally, I picked the darkest and most uncommon of the group (and also perhaps the most fragrant). My plant has been growing and has sent out offshoots but not flowered with me yet since I bought it.

Beautiful blooms, Randy! The V. Robert's Delight is sure worth the wait. Is it a quarter terete, Randy?
Yes, it's raining again. This morning while doing my routine watering in the garden, a waft of powdery fragrance made me stop and take a second look. The dendrobium crumentatum, partly hidden from view, was in bloom. What a quick response to the rain.

    Jojo
That grow area is for the wife... I transferred most of my strap leaf vandas in this area
since this gets the least sun..... and in the weather we were having before I nearly lost
one of my robert's, if and when the rainy season is here I will move them back to their
original spot. And even in this area, I lost a lot of orchids....

My other Mini Palmer x (merillii x insignis) has better form than the one in bloom.... you
can see from the group shot that its in bud at the moment, will post photo when it
opens... I got them at the same time during the POS show at the Sunday Market.

The fragrance is just so lovely. Everytime they bloom so profusely, i feel that I am at a garden wedding. ;-)
And thanks for your photos Randy. I learned a valuable lesson on foliage. Always thought that strap vandas would have leaves that were more pliable and unfolded or open like a Sanderiana's. Now I think I was wrong with many of my orchids which I considered semi-strap before, simply because they have folded leaves that were a little stiffer than a Sanderiana's. One of these has a photo in a previous thread of mine on a red vanda which I suspect is a Fuch's Delight.

Well Angel, maybe Im the one who is wrong.... being new to orchids, I still have to learn
    a lot of the terminologies.

I noticed that my Roberts starts as a semi strap near the stem and gets strappy further
away, similar to the one in the top (group shot) which i forgot to include. Also if you
notice my Ascda Prapathom Gold, the leaf is wide open and very stiff with a nice dark
    green foliage.

Oh btw, please do post photos of your den. crumenatum.

Yes Randy, the topmost orchid in the group photo is my idea of a strap orchid with leaves that are more open and more pliable. Well, perhaps some of our orchid experts would drop by and give us some insight.

I'll try to get a good shot of the crumentatum. I find it easier to take good photos of the bigger orchids. The small flowers of a crumentatum would be nondescript unless taken up close.

    Angel,

Yes the Dendrobium crumenatum aka as "One-day dove orchid" because the blooms last only for a day is known to flower right after a rain/thunderstorm (specially after this long drought). This is an established fact.

You'd better take the photos before the day is over or you will end up with wilted flowers afterwards.
