About US $12 which is the price of a flowering strap leaf. The usual price for a semi or quarter terete is $7-8, so I thought the price did not reflect the true market value of the plant.

Hi Angel...Great Vanda. I saw your Vandas in some of your posts and very healthy indeed.. Do you grow them receiving direct sunlight? for how many hours? Thank you.

Thanks Ron. It was love at first sight for me because of its color.

Yew Sung, I got this strap vanda for around US $6.60 about six months ago. It was in bloom at the time I bought it.

Most of my terete and semi-terete vandas and some dendrobiums grow in direct sunlight. From March till September most of them would be under direct sunlight (max. 32-33 Deg Centigrade) ALL DAY.

The few strap vandas that I have are grown in part shade but they still get direct sunlight for about 3 hours.

I don't use shade cloth and only rely on shadows cast by surrounding plants and structures. The angles of the shadows vary depending on the time of year; hence, the all-day-direct-sun from March to mid-September, and the only one hour of direct sun at the other extreme during December to February.

Wow....Thanks for the info. I will try to expose some of my semi-terete to direct sun. How many times do you water both your starp and semi-terete with your growing environment?

I water twice a day during the hottest months (March to May) for all the different kinds of orchids.

I don't provide any protective shelter from rain. It just so happens that Cotabato, in Central Mindanao, does not experience any typhoon at all. I can't recall having experienced the full brunt of a typhoon, not even very strong winds in my lifetime.
