I have a friend with an orchid farm. She uses two layers for everything, v. strap, v. terete, dends, phals. I noticed that the color of the flowers are not as intense as those planted under direct sun. In fact, I have bought some orchids from her and when they bloomed in my place, the flowers looked totally different. I posted one some months ago, The Difference a Little More Sunlight Makes (or so, something like that.)

I totally agree, for those non strap vandas... I give them unfiltered light.

And since we're in the Vanda Bloomers thread I might as well add more (too lazy to open a new thread). Its mounted on a driftwood along with another
dozen vandas, and they get full sun from from 11am-onwards.

thanks Angel, this Mokara proves your point that more light gives more intense colors....
when I got this one it was a more yellowish than orange.... then when I bloomed for me
the first time I was actually surprised at the intensity of the color.... since then it hasnt
    failed to amaze me.
