    Talking NOID Grocery Dendrobium

Here is the Noid Dendrobium I got back in July--you may remember it was potted in Miracle Grow potting soil in a hideous mauve pot. I'm so excited because this is my first non-phal rebloom.

It has 8 blooms and 4 buds on two new spikes. It has grown several inches taller and developed a lean, which I suspect may mean it wants more light, but otherwise seems happy--so I am too!

Who needs an excuse? Actually, that was my thought exactly. After I posted this thread, I had to stop at a big box store and the plant corner has a giant magnet in it, I swear. They had 3 little mini-dendrobiums on the sale rack. One was still in full bloom and great bluish-purple color. I asked the lady the price and she saw the beacon on my forehead and said "Dollar a piece if you take all three." So, now I'm experimenting. We shall see what becomes of them.

Getting old media out of a den. is a trick, doubly so when it is soggy sphag and cubed when a hairy hitch-hiking clover has become rootbound in the same pot. Thankfully, I got to take a break from that task when the delivery man brought my box of 30 budded mini-catts that need to be unpacked.

That brings the total to somewhere around 70. I'm done for the year. No, seriously. I mean it. It will freeze soon, which presents 2 problems--1)getting new plants home without damage, and 2) how to comfortably sleep outside when my bedroom becomes over-run with orchids.

Oh, I am jealous! Seriously though, I am going to pull this up next time my family says "so how many orchids did you buy this month???"

Hi Trish...Just wondering if your dendrobium is still in the Miracle-Grow soil? Just wanted to know, because it's doing wonderful! Betty :-)

Go ahead, Kathi. I'm always happy to be the basis of someone's "See this person's nuttier than I am" defense.

You want some more mini-catts? They are gorgeous and healthy and I have duplicates! It's going to take work to figure out a proper set up for them. I'm sure it will come as no surprise to anyone here that they were an impulse buy. It was a package deal that appealed to both my orchid-collector and bargain-hunter natures.

I love mini catts, so if you seriously wish to part with any, I'd be happy to find room for them!

Yup, I am pndering the winter set-up thing too. Luckily, it won't freeze in Texas for a while yet...
