Smile Cattleya Maxima not fully opened yet

The second section of my Maxima is blooming. The petals are not fully opened yet, but this one does a color change before it's done so I like to take pics of it as it blooms. This set of flowers has a definite twist, interesting coloring on the petals, while the sepals remain normal color. Also; the other plant started out much paler...change in temps at blooming is probably why this one has so much more color.

Not yet...if I remember it took them a couple days before they got a nice fragrance to them.

These change color fast...still no scent yet though. The color in the first pic is almost a perfect match....

Great color on that orchid, Connie. Looks like a huge bloom in the photo where you are holding the flower. Such a beautiful lip on this orchid.

    Cheers,
    BD

There are only two flowers this blooming. In return for fewer flowers, these ended up much much larger. They are beginning to emit a wonderful fragrance this morning and are a little darker purple today. Maybe instead of a group blooming this one will continue a few here and there. I still have several sheaths that are as yet unbloomed...

How are you growing yours, Connie? It's lovely and mine has yet to bloom, although it has a new growth so I am optimistic!

The pastel color in the beginning is lovely, but it's even more gorgeous as it gets darker. Beautiful!
