Default Ascda Orglades Spot x ( Bangkhuntien Gold x Fuch's Gold) An Ascocenda...

This is ( as I remember, without walking down the garden to look at the label again) Ascda Orglades Spot x ( Bangkhuntien Gold x Fuch's Gold). About 15 flowers when the last bud opens - and it will be a couple of weeks perhaps before all the flowers are as big as they will get. Here in UK the winter light is a limiting factor ; I find that vanda flowers open at 1/2 or best 2/3rds full size, and need to grow to reach full size. If we have a wet spell, or grey skies - not unusual in November ( there is a poem - "No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,/ No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds, - November!" ... Thomas Hood wrote it more than 200 years ago - still true) then the best size is not too good. If we get some sunshine - and hey , I live on the South Coast - the best weather in England - the sun always shines...( I wish) then they will be good enough to make me happy.

This is a floriferous plant - usually spikes every six months or so. I repotted it a year ago and go rid of the lower leggy part - its a plant I have had for several if not many years ; the second pic shows the most recent old flower spikes ; the third pic shows how my Vandas are hanging up to get the best natural light I can provide, although above the lamps which provide supplementary lighting at bench level. I find they don't like that light - too much for them, turns them freckled.
