    Default Tricovanda MARDI

This primary hybrd crossing between Tricoglotis fasciata and Vanda tricolor done by Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and registered as Tricovanda MARDI. Got this plant when I was visited MARDI 10 years ago in exchange basis. The plant is very tough and flowers are beautiful and emitted strong perfume, very fresh.Hope you enjoy it.

Very nice blooms Zainal. I don't think that there are many crosses using Trichoglottis fasciata, though it has beautiful flowers and very pleasant fragrance. Used to be quite commonly found in Kedah but very hard to find now. There were large colonies of them growing on some of the rain trees in the Istana (Palace) grounds in Anak Bukit, Kedah. I am sure they are still there.

I am not sure but I think fasciata has been reclassified from Trichoglottis to another genus.

    Thanks for your comments.
Yew now they change to Staurochilous fasciatus no longer under Tricoglottis. Sad to hear when it's difficult to find this beautiful species in Kedah, hopefully you still can find some of them in rain trees Anak Bukit Kedah. Good luck.

Thanks Zainal for the info. Looked up IOSPE and sure enough it was there listed under Staurochilus. Saw a good picture of it there and it was like meeting an old friend. Does it mean then that the generic name of Trichovanda is no longer valid ? I hope not.

Another beautiful and possibly rather rare Vanda. You have quite a collection Zain that in Europe or North America would be hard to equal.
