    Talking Cattleya Margaret Degenhardt 'Saturn'

This one is a bit different. It is an older cross (splash petal) cattleya orchid. I almost lost this plant to scale, but it seems to be coming back finally. Sorry that the bloom photos are not better. It was hanging pretty high up in the greenhouse and I was standing on a water bucket trying to snap the shots...

Love the colors. The first picture is my favorite. Standing on a water bucket, pointing a camera at a dripping orchid -- maybe not a good idea???????

I think your photos are fine. Of course Bruce you don't have the advantage I have of taking particularly fuzzy photos. This is how I can claim a "beautiful this" and a 'rare and precious that'. All kidding aside this is a wonderful Cattleya and I only hope that one of my Catts blooms this well when it grows up! Al

Real glad you didn't lose this one, Bruce. Recently there was a discussion on scale, I think you posted, too. What lengths did you have to go to save this specimen?
    Thanks, Remo

I like this 'old' splash petal catt, BD ; subtle colours and 'splashing' unlike the more modern ones which tend to look garish and 'slutty' ( pardon the use ).

hahah... no worries Yew. I totally understand what you mean.

Remo, I use malathion and systemic sprays. I put it on pretty heavily too. Probably not very safe, but I didn't think the plant would make it. Glad it did.

    Cheers,
    BD

That's amazing. Bringing back cattleya into healthy condition is a hard work, and make it blooms again is even harder. Congratulation.
