I tried to keep my plants from blemishes - it didn't work, especially hanging them outside during the summer. I have a friend with blemish free plants that do not flower. I have plants with nics and scratches and pale green leaves and they bloom. Look at pictures of orchids in situ - they are not often pretty plants.

Beautiful flowers there - really love that intense color.

Yes , it has been my good fortune to go looking for orchids in the wild in most continents where they grow, and I can say that you never see a perfect plant in the wild - which incidentally is why it is always possible to know if species plants on sale are wild collected or nursery raised.

I find it interesting how a striking name ( with hybrids) can influence my choice of purchase. Who can resist - for example "Cattleya Scheherezade "Jewel Box" ; who can't resist " Cattleya Boring Bertie " ( OK I made that one up ) but the first carries hints of mystery, romance, splendour - the second would not charm anyone.

Moral for orchid registrants - if you want your orchid to sell , find an exciting name.

There are often growers that always use a particular name in the plant they are naming. Like Dorsetman, there you go, you could use your screen name. It works. And Brutal Dreamer, now what kind of flower does that conjure?
