Default Lc Looq Tone x Blc Haadyai Delight

A cross of 2 famous Thai cattelyas. Looq Tone is very variable but in this case the yellow/red lip form was used. Haadyai Delight has one of he best shapes, round with a beautiful full lip.
This plant bloomed on a 5 in pseudobulb. Size of bloom 3 1/2 ins (9 cm).

Both are wonderful parents, the flowers on this one are nice but not an improvement on either parent I think.

I think I have to agree with you to some degree. Blc Haadyai Delight is such a beautiful catt that it was crossed with everything in Thailand and most of the hybrids have been disappointing. This particular plant, will, unfortunately, be judged against its illustrious parents and in many ways will be found wanting.Looking at the positives, it has very fine form (a matter of opinion, whether the 'star' shape of Looq Tone or the round form of Haadyai Delight is more desirable), very good substance and texture; very clear, bright yellow colour; well-formed lip, in balance with the 2 lateral petals, with well-demarcated, good colour in the lip. The flowers are well-held above the foliage on strong spike.

I don't think it's an outstanding cross, but would hold its own on the blue ribbon judging bench in its section. Unfortunately it's hard to live up to our expectations from such famous parents.

Completely agree with you Yew, I couldn't have put it into words better. These blooms are beautiful in their own right, but I guess the pressure of measuring up to your talented parents is not restricted to human celebrities anymore LOL !

Thanks BD and Angel. This is the season where most of the orchids seem to be spiking and blooming. Needless to say I spent a lot of time in the orchid house looking at the blooms and contemplating (just contemplating) repotting a lot of them.Hehehehe.They do need repotting as they have outgrown their pots.
