    Default Cattleya warneri

One of the classic large cattleyas. Flowers some 8 inches in the north-south direction. Not a brilliant shape, in the sense that it doesn't open flat, which is a normal and common "fault" in this species according to that invaluable source of information about the large cattleya species, Chadwick. But there are fine forms, I don't know about available , but which have been awarded in the past. usually in my experience with other Cat' species, they can be found with great difficulty and at large expense, as divisions, from the South American specialist firms, but I'll be content with this example, I think.
I don't know how long the flowers will last , this is a first in every department for me with this ; the first time I have ever seen one ( that I am aare of ) in flower, as well as a first flowering. I have raised it from a small seedling, taking about 4 years. It aborted last year, but the four fine flowers this year are encouraging. A branched growth with a smaller bulb has two buds, too. Perfume not (yet ?) as fine as on many Catts -maybe with flowers this big to flaunt, it doesn't need perfume to attract pollinators.

Wow those are gorgeous for first time blooms, they can get better the next time in the shape department. Colours are nice and intense. I have laid my hands on a coerulea, I hope it flowers the next year.

If nothing is wrong with your plant you will get perfume.
The shape will get only better. The flowers have large petals and an upright standing dorsal petals. That's a good start. Next year use from early march on a flower promoting fertilizer (high phosphorus content) and you will see a difference. Good Luck!

    !
The perfume has now started - fills the room where the plant is located ( too good to just leave in the greenhouse, I thought ! )
