    Hi Kathi,

That's so beautiful. What a nice combination of apricot and pink. The lip is simply sublime! Congratulations.

Very nice colors, I hope the flowers open up more and hold up the petals.

I have just been reading up about pigment production , apparently the cell pH is critical, and changes can affect the pigment produced, Not that one can do anything about that, or could one ? ( a foliar feed with low or high pH nutrient as the buds develop ? )

It is a very unusual combination here. Very striking. I do like it.

The colors are beautiful when well-lit, but even after a week the sepals seem to droop a bit. Of course, it was shipped in bud, and arrived in 100*+ heat and spent an hour or two on my doorstep...I am thinking this might have affected the bloom??

A lovely orchid and yes it most likely suffered a bit from the shipping. Definately one for the wish list. The coloration is beautiful.

Yes it is indeed possible and has been done in Hydrangeas for a long time. In case of hydrangea it is known that acidic pH of the soil allows aluminium uptake leading to blue colored petals whereas high alkaline pH makes aluminium unavailable making the flowers pink in color. The anthocyanins that impart colors to the petals are very similar in chemical structures in all plants, so it might work in Orchids as well. Here are some links that give the science behind the petal colors
