Orchids are doing well summering outside as usual--lots of new growth. Even the one vanda I have is doing OK. Wish they could stay outside longer, but about 4 months is the most we're likely to get between last frost of spring and first frost of fall.

Golden Chieftain (note spelling) is (Ctt. Chocolate Drop X Rlc. Golden Delicious), and the genus is now Rhyncattleanthe (Rth.) It was awarded an AM/AOS in 2009. It's the first time I've seen it. How tall is the plant?

Between the two, I still prefer the Golden Chieftain.

The latest growth is 15 inches to the tips of the leaves. The flowers are almost 4 inches across. The plant growth is rather spindly. I got the plant over a year ago in bloom as part of a large purchase for the orchid seminar I was moderating. It was one of the plants left over!

Thanks for the spelling correction. My eyesight is not what it used to be.

Just wondered if it took after the Chocolate Drop parent for plant size, and it would seem it does.
