So you crossbreed vandas too? Wow. I've never seen vanda seedlings in flasks except in pictures.

No, I don't actually crossbreed them. I did get 2 flasks from Thailand. I just deflasked them about one month ago. It's really need. I have 1 flask Vanda's and 1 Asco's.

I have this notion that it would take forever for them to reach blooming size if you buy them at that stage. How long does it actually take for your vandas... from flask to flowers?

I really have no idea. This is my first time i've ever done it. I just wanted to try it. To see them grow up. I guess it will take a while, but I don't mind.

That's good you get to see the orchid in different stages. Even if I wanted to, nobody sells orchids in flasks in my place. They're all blooming size. Sometimes though, there are young offshoots for sale that haven't bloomed yet.

Yes I know. It's really fun to see them grow. I did get mine from Thailand. Here in Holland you can not buy them either. Sometimes you see it on the internet. I was lucky to have someone who went to Thailand and did bring me 2 flasks.

It's just that some vandas take forever to grow and reach blooming size. I don't know if I have the patience for that. ;-)

I can understand that. If I did not have any one who did bring them for me I would not have done it.

Over here, those that buy in flasks are the big commercial nurseries. There's nothing like buying a blooming orchid and adding instant color and beauty to one's garden. And even then, after that bloom fades, one never knows how long it is before the next rebloom.

I can understand that the nurseries love to buy flasks. That is so much cheaper for them. It sure is true that it is nice to buy a blooming orchid. Only here they are very expensive. Also it's indeed always the question if you can get them to rebloom.
