Sorry Gavin, I don't have any plants in Camerons. I only go there for the holidays and look up a few friends. Back in Kedah I set my auto watering system and pray that here is no electrical outage while I'm away.

My my the King of Taiwan is really some floofy to bow down to !! It dwarfs the Alma Kee so substantially. I had read this name tag at Dresden orchid shows where many vendors were from Taiwan, but I had not seen the blooms so I was skeptical, the next time I see this one I am going to grab it.

I bought this from a lady vendor from Taiwan at the Perak Orchid Show a few years ago without ever having seen the flowers. I took her word for it having huge blooms. The blooms are really impressive.
The other lavender from her was Blc Sanyang Ruby, another good large catt with colours reminiscent of the ruby. Unfortunately after its second blooming I had to divide it up and gave 3 pbulbs to my cousin who subsequently killed it and the 3 pbulbs I kept are doing very poorly indeed and seem destined to go to orchid heaven. Here's a picture of it I took in 2009. I'll have to start looking for a replacement.

I find Sanyung Ruby a very poor grower. Had one, grows so slowly and buds always blast even though I peel of the sheath to ensure water does not collect..

In Florida people hang their huge cattleya from the trees in their yards. I'm always amazed noone seems to bother them. One house has a yard of large trees and there must be dozens of cattleya hanging. When they bloom out it's a sight. I end up holding up traffic as I slowly drive by staring at the orchids. It's too bad people there don't leave them be. They are really beautiful in those huge baskets like that.
