very rarely i get to hear from my friends saying "look here Ian, guess what my wife/hubby got me as a birthday present, an orchid from my wish list!!".
congratulation Yew Sung, nice bloom and may the vanda bloom to your expectation the next time.
After more than 50 years of marriage you learn to be more devious - like leaving the wish list where she is sure to see it and asking her to look at the computer screen whenever a plant on your wish list appears and sighing ' I wish I had that'.

Was it Shakespeare who asked, "if anything smelled better than a rose". The answer of course is yes there is..............it's called a Vanda flower. It's really to bad he was born in the wrong time and place or I am sure he would discover this for himself. Can you imagine Yew the sonnets he could have written about blooms like this? Why English literature would not be as we know it now, but even better! By the way forgive my digressing.................AL

You are the only one that would really appreciate this Yew Sung. I went to a nursery on Saturday. I talked to owner in length about tessellatas. He took me to an area of the nursery and proudly pointed out a plant that was not blooming...and it was a jungle collected PINK tessellata that he had for years. He had selfed it and had seedlings in various stages. I bought several. The few that he had bloomed were pink. Motes told him that there was a good possibility that he would get an Alba.
I really don't care about the Alba form...I just about fell over finding pink species! So much that I'm going back over there Saturday and buying a couple more.

A pink form? Now that would really be something! How were the tessellations - darker shade of pink? Must really ask around from my Thai contacts to see if they have one. Looking forward to seeing pictures of these. Any chance the ones you bought will be flowering soon?

They are small. Probably a year away from blooming on the largest. But with the tessellatas blooming at such a young age, you never know.
I didn't see anything in bloom. I asked him how pink was pink...and he said, very. I trust him that all is correct, he is very active in the local club and well known.

See what you can find out. I would be interested in seeing if anyone knows anything about this one.
I'm meeting Pat (Zozzl) over there on Saturday.
...and sorry for hijacking the thread.
