    Unhappy Kagawaara Sandy Gold

This name has not been registered and there is still controversy as to whether it is a valid name. It has been suggested that it is actually Kgw Diinesh Gold which is registered. Whatever the name it has brilliant colour but unfortunately it is rather delicate. Mine nearly died 2 years ago during the drought. The bottom half lost all the leaves and dried up. and I could'nt top-cut as there wee no roots on the upper half.Recently during the rainy season 2 new roots popped up and it is blooming. I know I shouldn't allow it to bloom but should cut off the spike to conserve its energy but the temptation to see the blooms got the better of me. The blooms are a pathetic shadow of their former glory. I think I'll cut off the spike tomorrow.
I'm posting 2 pictures - the present spike and the previous spike of 2 years ago.

The short spike is the present one.

Yes, Roy, it's one of the best kagawaaras. But the 'original' Diinesh Gold that started the craze for this orchid was a jaw-dropping knockout gorgeous plant.. I'm referring to Kgw Diinesh Gold that won the Best Plant of the Show in the Penang Floral Fest in 2005. Everyone who saw it rushed out to buy one and there were quite a few for sale. But later when they bloomed most of them looked similar to the one in my picture. The vendors were accused of dishonesty and cashing in on the demand for Diinesh Gold. As result a new name came into being - Sandy Gold- to differentiate it from the 'original'. Strangely I have never seen a Diinesh Gold or another one like it even in pictures.

I'm posting a picture of the Kgw Dinesh Gold that stared it all, taken at the Penang Show. It was taken with a long lens at a slow speed and the quality of the picture is poor because of camera shake. But I want to show how beautiful the blooms were. As far as I can remember there are no spots or markings on the flowers.BTW I have posted this picture before.
