i saw one of these at the taipei internation flora expo and went mental over it...just had to have one! search the weekend flower market ever weekend for months til one day i found a seller with a flat of young ones,,,so i bought 2 (just in case) i cant wait for them to bloom!!
yours are fantastic! how long did it take to get yours to flower?
Thank you Geoff! :-)
I bought my plant in April, 2009. The plant was 7-8" tall. As for today, the largest growth is about 18" tall (cane is 10"). The spike appeared in August, so it took less than two and the half years to get my plant to bloom.
thanks! that's good to know! the two i bought are roughly about the same size you started with...two years aint nothin! im glad you didnt say 7years!! wow, i was looking online and and was shocked to see plants of the same size for 100-175us$!! i paid $1.50 (50taiwan$) each for mine....IM NEVER MOVING BACK TO THE STATES!!!!!
Oh no, the price you mentioned is way too high.
I bought my plant for $20; at the Redlands there were plants (large seedlings) even less expensive than mine.
I am sure that your conditions will be good for your plants. What the plant loves is: high humidity, warm and even hot temperatures, a lot of sunshine and air movement ( winds in my case). This plant is heat tolerant. By the way, my plant initiated a spike after I put it in a brighter place (almost full sun). Most of its canes became reddish.
Finally, all eight flowers are open!
