Red face NOID Cattleya aka Pretty in Purple n Pink

I am celebrating my birthday very early this year (I turn 39 again in mid-october). I ordered my greenhouse this morning, and to celebrate I bought myself a couple plants. A local orchid store owner and I sit and visit every so often and this is one from her private collection. I saw the flower and didn't even bother to look for a tag. I doubt i'll know it's name until I repot. Normally I don't worry about plants from trusted places, but while looking for a tag I found alot of scale hiding here and there. Always gotta keep an eye out for those critters!

Very beautiful, i cant believe all those frills!!! All that work and energy the plant must put in to make those blooms! Bet she likes a good rest afterwards.

Next time this plant shows signs of grows you should repot and maybe make some division. You can make easy 5 divisions.

When leafs are growing horizontally they try to catch more light. That's an indication that your plant didn't get enough light.

The insufficient light together with nutrition deficit could be the reason that your plant has scales.

Boy, does THAT look and sound familiar - beautiful plant, beautiful flowers, specimen-sized..... and requiring industrial clean-up! My 39th is next month and I'll be in Maine for it, but I think I'll start planning my birthday presents right away - you've inspired me!

    Happy birthday to you!
