    Default a Mueller cross

This actually bloomed last month but I kept forgetting to post the pic. It was a very good blooming though I wish I had taken the pic against a dark background -- the yellow just does not stand out as well against the white wall. The only disappointment for me was the lack of any color change for which Mueller crosses are usually known for. It would have been truly outstanding if it had. Ah well.

Very pretty, even without the color shift.

I think it is because the L. aurea is a very strong yellow to begin with.
It probably overpowered any non-yellow pigments when the flower was young, even if they were present.
And when the color shift happened, it was not noticeable as it shifted from yellow to yellow.

Most Richard Mueller derived crosses end up with yellow or orange as the final color, right?

Richard Mueller is B. nodosa x C. milleri (formerly L. milleri). C. milleri is a red to orange colored species which, when brought into cultivation in the 1970s, was thought to be another road to red cattleya hybrids. As it turned out, not so. Richard Mueller flowers generally are bright to pale yellow. The fading red overlay in some Richard Mueller hybrids may be an expression of C. milleri.

As Michael mention, John, Mueller crosses tend to be bright or pale yellows. Most of the ones I have seen are also spotted.
