My cattleya has several sheath. i bought it in in june and since then it has grown three more pseudobulbs with sheath coming out of them. Can anybody tell me how long it will take until it blooms? Also one of the sheath's is getting yellow, i hope it is not dying!

Can anybody tell me how long it normally takes from the time the sheath shows to the time a Cattleya blooms?

Sometimes the sheaths NEVER even set spike, and simply dry up. Sometimes they will dry up and set spike some seasons later. Others will simply sheath, spike then do it all again Typically, it can take anywhere between 3-6 months before buds develop to the mature stage, so just keep an eye out, and feed with a little bit of bloom booster Also keep them nasty snails and slugs away, invest in a pet blackbird

Thanks for the info, I guess I will not see a bloom then. I have been waiting since June for a bloom and three more pseudobulbs with sheaths have came up but still no bloom and I have placed the pot as close to the light as possible.

Exactly, sometimes the wait can be excruciatingly long, yet the results are very satisfying! Just because it has been in sheath since June, doesnt mean it wont bud up in the coming months.

    Mabuhay!

Sometimes that's what i love about cattleyas. You can never tell when they will bloom. And sometimes when you least expect it, they put on a show. I love cattleyas. Just keep your patience hanging in there. Enjoy and Godbless

Keep the faith...it can take months and months. Some even bloom from what appear to be dry sheaths.

    Cool

Thanks all I appreciate the encouragement I guess I just have to wait. because the plant looks very healthy as it has grown 3more pseudobulbs with sheaths in them tells me it will bloom one day. To cheer myself up I bought a new little mini phalaenopsis in bloom. I will post a picture later. She is real cute.
