    Talking Dendrobium Humming Butterfly

I've had this dendrobe for about 6 months and this the second rebloom. I was hoping for more flowers before I posted but it has consistently produced 4 - 5 flowers per blooming, The flowers are quite big by dendrobium standards measuring 3 1/2 inches. This represents a new line of breeding from Thailand with more subdued pastel colours and that broad lip. Why 'Humming Butterfly' ? It doesn't hum but does look somewhat like a butterfly, I suppose. The flower stalk is very slender for the flowers of this size and so the spike is almost pendulous and with a slight breeze the blooms do look like butterflies settling on the stalk.

I haven't really been too impressed with Dendrobes but this one I love!! It's very pretty and elegant.

Reminds me of that rather spectacular phallie....whatsits? its got some womans name to it..... ??

I agree though, it looks spectacular! Could you carefully pack and smuggle a keikei into NZ for me please? But i think this would hit off very well here, and get more newbies interested in the different species, hybrids and varieties. Enthusiasm is seriously lacking here in NZ.

Nice one.. I have this too, but haven't been able to find the name until now. Mine was bought as Dend ''Catalyst'. Is 'Humming Butterfly' the registered name? What are the parents, out of curiosity? Do you know if this is a mutation of dend Sonia/Ekapol type hybrids?

I have quite a collection of Dendrobes. But I have never seen this one before. Truly a beauty, I love it and will be on the look-out to find one.
    Any idea of the cross?
    Thanks for sharing.
