Red face My Cattleya Goldenzelle Nicole in bloom

Surprisingly, this cattleya bloomed, there are 4 bulbs and it has just started spreading new roots.. The flower is quite small, maybe 3.5 inches across, i have no idea if it will get bigger once it's established.

    Congrats!
I am not an expert, but the blotchiness of color on one petal makes me wonder if all is OK...I'll be interested to see if others think this might be of concern or not?

Seem to be seeing a number of Goldenzelle clones that I haven't seen around before. Quite nice to see some of the variety that that cross produced.

Kennenth, hate to say this but your orchid appears to be virused. That's some heavy duty colorbreak on that flower.

It is a lovely orchid, and I hate to see my suspicion confirmed...that's too bad.

It is rather like a Herpes ( cold) sore, on a persons face , caused by a virus.... But draw your own conclusions , I'm not saying..

Kenneth it is a lovely bloom. Thanks for sharing.
I have a Goldenzelle 'High Noon' that has yet to bloom. After all the Goldenzelle clones I've seen recently with color break I'm not sure if I am going to have the same issues.

Geoff--I think what you are saying is that some folks might choose to keep the plant, and take measures to prevent the virus spreading (rather than trash the plant)?? I think for some special plants, I might do that, but maybe not for just any plant....do you do that with yours? Any thing special to minimize risk (other than sterilzing tools and not allowing contact, or water to drip from one to the next, etc)?

I don't think drips matter ; for virus transmission there has to be some way of cell contents (virused) to get into the other cell contents directly.
I sterilise my cutting tools with a little blow-torch - the one I also use in the kitchen making creme brulee .
But sap sucking insects are the normal vector, especially ones which flit about from one plant to another, so keeping the pests down is important.
I agree about disposing of virused plants - tied up in a black plastic bag for the incinerator.
But the problem is those where "maybe its virused..." Isolation is the ideal, but not easy.
