They are very nice! but I wonder why you can't you grow Phalaenopsis though. I would think you could grow them easily.

Nice ones.. haha, I have the opposite problem. Phals grow like weeds for me, but hard-cane phalaenopsis-type dends do not do well in pots for me. They flourish when mounted on a tree stump.

Both are equally pretty but I prefer the first one, very nice.

I think I give the phals too much light (vanda and cattelya light levels) . At the moment I have a fewbellina , cornu-cervi and violacea growing very nicely and all of them are mounted on driftwood or fern-root slabs. The ones that died are the hybrids - whites, pinks and novelties - that are grown in pots. BTW these are the ones imported from Taiwan. I'm now trying to grow phals that are produced locally and I think they are more hardy and suited to our local conditions. I'll have to provide a more shady area in my orchid house for the phals.

Yew Sung, Phals take low light like most Paphs. Cattleya/Vanda light will definitely kill them slowly if not quickly.

Thanks Tom. Been meaning to add extra shade to my Paph/Phal section of my grow area but have been putting it off. Time to get off my butt and start doing it.

Yew; In the quest for more shade for your Phalaenopsis, you have my full empathy and moral support! Of course I think the majority of us went to 'The Scarlet O'Hara School of Philosophy' as in and I quote, "Oh I can't think about that now. I'll think about that tomorrow" AL

If I subscribe to that I'm afraid all my phals would be gone with the wind. ( I can hear my old Scottish teacher saying ' How corny')
